To celebrate the first evening of British summertime and following the success of our ‘literary’ walk from Sandgate to Folkestone along the Leas for the Book Festival last November we are planning another for the 28th March 2010

Pavement Pounders have been devising and delivering walks and talks in London for some years, The Romantics in Hampstead, Coleridge in Highgate, Interwar Hampstead and Fitzrovia, to mention a few (www.pavementpounders.org.uk).
28th March 2010 at 3 p.m meet outside Sandgate Castle, the seaward side. Tickets £7. Book early as numbers per walk have to be limited. Walks last about 2 hours. If there is sufficient interest we may repeat this walk in the spring and summer. [b]Bookings; 01303-227150. Mob 0750-581-3297 Link Don’t miss it! ..

Vernacular Spectacular

Club Shepway introduce their latest publication Vernacular Spectacular, documenting the Leas Lift
through its last season before closure.

For the duration of the summer months, from June to September 2008, Club Shepway was given use of
Folkestone’s historic funicular lift. Once an emblem of the area’s Victorian heyday, carrying passengers from
the up-market Leas Promenade to the bustling seafront and pier below, the lift now stands atop the
rubble foreshore of a run down seafront awaiting regeneration.

Club Shepway transformed the lift into a temporary exhibition space, inviting artists to develop work in
response to the physical confines of the lift carriages and the unique position of the town mid regeneration process.

Artist included:
Jan Sykes, Tom Sykes, Asa Spratt, Abi Gilchrist and Bryony Dawkes Hayley Bates, Kayle Brandon, Joanna Brown,
Samuel Carney, Jacqui Chanarin, Diane Dever, Denice Dever, Amy Feneck, Benjamin Fletcher, Will Gould, Bethany Hart,
Emily Hill,Steve Hines, Abigail Hunt, Simon Kennedy, Gerry Kelly, Lady Lucy, Cathy Lomax, Alex Michon,James Newton,
Marco Palmieri, Kieren Reed, Matt Rowe, David Rule, Souvenir Magazine, Lady Lucie.

The Aviary

Posted by The Aviary on the 16th November 2009

Having begun as a guilty pleasure for two young, indecisive (and flat broke) fine artists with a love of all things preloved and redesigned, The Aviary has rapidly blossomed into a much-loved small business.

We specialize in handmade, decorative home-wares, gift items, stationery and original, affordable artworks utilizing vintage ephemera.

As we delight in reinventing and rehoming, all of our items incorporate preloved, reclaimed and recycled materials that, wherever possible, have been sourced locally and saved from becoming unnecessary landfill.
